August may be halfway over, but all the most terrific titles are still coming in hot on your favorite streaming platforms right now, and show no signs of slowing down. Even better than the titles themselves are the amazing actresses starring in them, and with our weekly Woman Crush Wednesday we seek to honor and celebrate everyone from up-and-comers, to longtime legends of screens big and small.
Today, we’re talking about a laudable lady who has been killing it in film and TV for 17 years now, and who we hope to see continuing to thrive for many years to come. This Irish actress has served up some particularly compelling performances within the last few years, so be sure to see all of the wonderful work she’s done before checking out what she’s featuring in next. Without further ado, let’s give it up for this week’s WCW, the exuberant Eve Hewson!
WHO’S THAT GAL: Eve Hewson
WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Hewson plays Becka Garvey in upcoming Apple TV+ title Bad Sisters, which premieres on the platform this Friday, on August 19. The dark comedy thriller series follows the five Garvey sisters, who have all been extremely close with one another ever since their parents’ tragic death in a car accident back when they were young. Since then, the Garveys have vowed to always protect one another, and Bad Sisters shows just how far they’ll go to do so. In addition to Hewson, Sharon Horgan, Anne-Marie Duff, Eva Birthistle, and Sarah Greene star as the Garvey sisters, with Claes Bang, Brian Gleeson, and Daryl McCormack also featured in supporting roles.
There’s murder, intrigue, and plenty of sisterly love and shenanigans. What more could you ask for? See all of the gripping action go down in Bad Sisters as soon as it drops this week, only on Apple TV+.
WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Hewson’s professional onscreen career began with some short film work, including 2005’s Lost and Found (for which she is credited as “Brenda M Stankard”), 2008’s Jorma’s Blind Date, and 2008’s Musical Names and Musical Sounds. It was also in 2008 that the actress had her feature film debut, starring as Stella in musical drama The 27 Club. From there, Hewson began steadily racking up roles in films like 2011 drama This Must Be the Place, 2013 crime thriller Blood Ties, and 2013 romantic comedy-drama Enough Said before landing her first major TV role as main character Lucy Elkins in Steven Soderbergh-directed medical period drama series, The Knick, in 2014.
After leaving The Knick in 2015, Hewson continued to construct an impressive and varied filmography with work in films like 2015 historical drama Bridge of Spies, 2017 biographical drama Papillon, 2018 romantic drama Paper Year, 2018 action adventure Robin Hood, and 2019 coming-of-age drama The True Adventures of Wolfboy. Most recently, she has further made a name for herself across the world as an actress to watch by playing Anne Morgan in 2020 biographical drama film Tesla, Anna Wetherell in 2020 drama miniseries The Luminaries, and Adele Ferguson in 2021 Netflix Original noir psychological-thriller miniseries Behind Her Eyes. With the way she’s been on a roll over the past few years, we have no doubt that Hewson will only continue to make entertaining, evocative, and thought-provoking movies and shows, and can’t wait to see all that she pursues and creates in the years ahead.
WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: While we’re currently not sure what’s next for Hewson role-wise, you can at least stay up to date with the latest from the actress by following her now on Twitter and Instagram so that you never miss a moment from your world-class WCW!
