According to Liverpool Echo, Everton winger Anthony Gordon could be targeted again in the January transfer window as Newcastle United keep an eye on the young prospect. It is understood that Chelsea had offered £45 million for the English forward but the Toffees rejected the bid from the Londoners keeping him at Goodison Park this season.
Gordon’s Campaign For Everton Last Season
Gordon had a decent campaign as he saved the Toffees from relegation in the final weeks producing several influential displays in the final third. He registered 4 goals and 2 assists over 40 appearances in the last season.
The Liverpool-born sensation performed consistently as he established himself as one of the key players for the Merseyside club under Frank Lampard after averaging 1.3 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in the Premier League. However, he barely managed to distribute the ball proficiently after completing 74.2% of his attempted passes in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should He Choose To Exit Everton?
Anthony Gordon excels at creating a yard of space for himself and doesn’t mind taking a shot at the goal from a distance. He can make a few decent runs down the left flank creating some meaningful chances in the final third. The youngster can also set up his teammates with a few key passes in front of the goal.
The 21-year-old has already made six appearances for the Toffees this season finding the back of the net on two occasions. However, despite his impressive run of form, the Merseyside club find themselves at the 16th position in the lower half of the Premier League table. He has earned a regular starting place on the left-wing position and is quite happy with the amount of football coming his way.
If Newcastle United go all in to bring him to St. James Park, then he could very well compete across various fronts but his minutes on the pitch would be drastically reduced due to heavy competition in the club for a starting position. So the young forward should stick to his current club and help them rise up the table as he enjoys plenty of football and grows into his true potential.
