Everton ended the deadline day with a significant addition to the midfield department but failed to bring in attacking reinforcements to strengthen the frontline. The Toffees have spent £84million including the add-ons bringing in new faces to bolster their squad for a better outcome in this campaign.
Confirmed Everton Signings
Neal Maupay
They completed the signing of this Brighton striker for a fee of £15 million as the French forward agreed to provide his services on a three-year deal. He is expected to compete with Dominic Calvert Lewin who is currently in the treatment room due to an injury setback. The Merseyside club were in dire need of a striker, and bringing Maupay was reasonable at this price.
Amadou Onana
This Belgium international was bought from Lille for a transfer fee of £33 million. The 21-year-old penned down a 5-year deal at the club. The young midfielder had a great last season; he should be looking to grow and become better in the centre of the park while he plays under Frank Lampard.
James Tarkowski
The English centre-back born in Manchester was brought for free from Burnley to add more bite and steel to the defence. He has immediately become a crucial member of this campaign considering the injuries of Yerry Mina and Ben Godfrey.
Conor Coady
The former Wolves skipper was brought on a season-long loan with an option to buy him at the end of this campaign for £10 million. His arrival certainly provides cover for an injury-prone backline.
Dwight McNeil
The first high-profile signing came in the form of this Burnely forward who was brought for a fee of £20 million including add-ons. Although he acts in replacement of Richarlison, he was instead brought to Goodison Park to provide adequate support to Dominic Calvert-Lewin up front.
Idrissa Gana Gueye
The former Everton midfielder was brought back to Merseyside for a fee of £2 million to bolster the central midfield areas. This seemed to be a brilliant signing from Frank Lampard considering the quality of this player and the insanely low price they got him for.
James Garner
The Manchester United youngster came to Goodison Park becoming the last signing for Everton as they paid a £15 million fee to acquire a brilliant individual who has impressed on his loan spell at Nottingham Forest in their promotion campaign.
Everton Transfer Exits
Richarlison – Tottenham, £60million
Dele Alli – Besiktas, loan
Jarrad Branthwaite – PSV, loan
Fabian Delph – Released
Andre Gomes — Lille, loan
Did Lampard Make The Right Choices?
In conclusion, the Toffees did well to bring in various reinforcements in all three areas but fell short of acquiring a striker who could provide more firepower and bring more competition to the number 9 position. Other than that, they have managed to make use of their transfer budget in bringing in quality players on a reasonable price and sold off their star player Richarlison for a decent fee to strike a balance.
