Fabio Carvalho has completed a free transfer from Fulham to Liverpool following agreement of a deal in May 2022.
Carvalho agreed a deal in late May to sign for Liverpool on 1 July upon expiration of his contract at Fulham a day earlier (30 June), with the free transfer having now been completed.
During his time at Craven Cottage, Carvalho scored 12 goals in 44 senior appearances – including 11 goals last season as he helped the Cottagers clinch promotion back to the Premier League, with Fulham now set to host Liverpool on the opening weekend of the season.
Speaking about the completion of his transfer, Carvalho said: “It’s just an amazing feeling to be here at one of the biggest clubs in the world, if not the biggest. So, I’m just happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started,” as he prepares for pre-season.
Carvalho added that once he heard that Liverpool wanted him, he knew he wanted to join the Reds after holding “natural” conversations with manager – Jurgen Klopp and club officials, even if he was only able “… to join them and try to be in and around the team.”
“Marco Silva, the way he plays football and made us play football, is more like attacking football and getting goals, which is similar to how Liverpool play, which is to score goals and dominate games,” added Carvalho, as he praised Silva for his player management at Fulham last season.
Acknowledging the impact of Silva’s tactics and attacking style on how he will approach his first season with Liverpool, Carvalho commented: “That’s what I’m here to do, to be able to help the team with my assists, creativity and goals. I’m looking forward to it.”
Klopp meanwhile is delighted to welcome Carvalho into the team as he praised the youngster for his talent and attitude, as he said: “What a talent he is, hey? A player who can bring a stadium to its feet.
“He puts his personality into his performances, he is confident and adventurous with the ball, and he wants to make things happen.
“He is a versatile player for sure and is very much an attacking threat with his creativity and dynamism.”
Klopp though has iterated that supporters will require “patience” with Carvalho due to his inexperience and the difference in quality between Liverpool and Fulham, although he believes that the 19 year-old will eventually reward their faith once he settles into the team.
Liverpool is packed with star players from Mohamed Salah to Jordan Henderson and James Milner plus others who Klopp believe will be of benefit for Carvalho as he added: “He has the perfect environment here to learn and develop.
“He has a dressing room full of the best teachers in football who will help him settle and adapt.”
Carvalho will wear the number 28 shirt with defender, Ben Davies switching to the number 24 shirt for this season.
