Jets coach Robert Saleh got a little feisty on Monday during a Zoom call with reporters.
Saleh expressed confidence that his young team will figure things out at some point and become winners, and when they do, he’s ready to remind anyone who doubted them.
“I know it’s going to happen,” Saleh said. “We’re all taking receipts on all the people that continually mock and say that we ain’t going to do anything. I’m taking receipts and I’m going to be more than happy to share them with all of y’all when It’s all said and done.”
The comments came a day after the Jets opened the season with a 24-9 loss to the Ravens. While there were some good moments from the defense, the offense was a dud and committed too many mistakes to win.
Saleh said this is part of the process and the coaches need to do what they can to accelerate the learning process for the young players. But Saleh said it will click at some point.
“It’s really hard to explain,” Saleh said. “You just feel the team getting faster and faster and faster and you’re going to see it on tape as you’re watching tape, you’re going to be like, ‘Damn, these guys are flying around and they’re making plays and they’re talking smack.’ It’s like the first half of the game when you look at the defensive side and even the offense with the way we were moving the ball but we just kept shooting ourselves in the foot. When those little errors that the offense was having in the first half stop happening, it’s going to be explosive.”
