Job description: Full-Time Forensic Meteorologist
Forensic Weather Consultants is seeking a new Full-Time Forensic Meteorologist to work in our Albany, New York office. As a “Weather Detective” you’ll be downloading past weather records and radar data, doing meteorological analyses to determine if the weather conditions caused an incident or accident to occur, and providing weather information that will ultimately answer questions and help others. Most of these tasks involve insurance claims and lawsuits. This is the perfect long-term opportunity for someone who loves the weather, snowstorms, hurricanes, thunderstorms, hailstorms, mesoscale systems, and analyzing Doppler radar images. If you have a great personality, excellent analytical skills, are a good communicator, and would enjoy working normal business hours (MONDAY through FRIDAY BUSINESS HOURS) then we want to hear from you. This position will be located in our Albany, New York.
Job Responsibilities:
-Download Doppler radar images, soundings, storm reports and other types of weather information. -Analyze and study Doppler radar, Dual Pol data and other information to determine if hail occurred at a specific location, how large it was, or how high the wind speeds were during past weather events.
-Prepare written reports explaining your methodology, how you reached your conclusions, and showing some of the radar images you reviewed.
-Provide expert testimony in depositions and trials if requested.
-Speak with structural engineers, adjusters, and attorneys about your findings to support their needs.
Minimum Requirements:
-Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology (Master’s Degree is a plus).
-Experience interpreting Doppler radar images, dual pol data, soundings, and other weather information.
-Experience using GR Analyst and GR Level 3.
-A solid understanding of severe thunderstorms, hail formation, microbursts, tornadoes, and other mesoscale processes
-Excellent report-writing and communication skills -Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
