Frank Energy have jumped on board as the first official commercial partner for new sports podcast Play On, sponsoring a bespoke segment that “sells it straight”.
Play On is hosted by Brook Ruscoe and Shaun Johnson and produced by YOUKNOW Media, the team behind podcast, The Morning Shift.
The partnership has allowed for bespoke segment, ‘Let’s Be Frank powered by Frank Energy’, within the podcast which sees the hosts tackle a topical sporting subject in a straightforward manner.
“Frank Energy’s brand tagline is ‘selling it to you straight’ because that’s what we do. No waffle, no confusing contracts, just power kept simple,” says Michael Wood, Head of Marketing at Frank Energy.
“As the official energy partner of the One NZ Warriors, when the opportunity came up to jump on board Play On and sponsor a section that sees Shaun Johnson telling it how it is, it was a no brainer for us.”
The first Let’s Be Frank segment was released as part of episode two on July 25. It saw Ruscoe (a diehard Hurricanes fan) take on the Hurricanes franchise for letting Ardie Savea slip away and into the Moana Pasifika rugby franchise from 2025. It’s safe to say he did not hold back.
Later in the episode, Warriors star Shaun Johnson decided to drum up some Frank Energy for himself and brought the segment back for round two when he schooled Ruscoe for claiming he could kick five goals from the sideline, a conversation that spurred from the public blowback suffered by Warriors player Chanel Harris-Tavita after missing a vital goal kick in a recent game against the Raiders.
Show producer “Matua” Marc Peard, says, “We’re only just getting started with Play On and if this first inclusion of our Let’s Be Frank segment is anything to go by, listeners are in for a real treat for the rest of the season.
“We’re super grateful to Frank Energy for supporting us in what is a brand-new show and we can’t wait to bring them along the journey which we know will be a wild ride going off our success with The Morning Shift”.
