Are you ready for one of the most colorful events of the year? Spring and summer are when parks and gardens all over Japan come alive with gorgeous flowers and the festivals that celebrate them.
And while most people have probably heard of Sakura Matsuri, or cherry blossom festivals in Japan, there’s some more flower festivals you won’t want to miss!

From April 15, 2023, the Fuji Shibazakura Festival opens its doors for a 44-day extravaganza of over 500,000 pink moss phlox flowers that will turn the hillsides of the Fuji Lake Resort into a sea of pink. This festival is one of the largest flower festivals in Kanto, and it’s a great opportunity to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse yourself in nature.
Shibazakura, or moss phlox, is a creeping evergreen plant that blankets the field in bright carpets of pink when it flowers in the spring. And at the Fuji Shiba-sakura Festival, the sight is even more spectacular to behold as the venue happens to sit before a breathtaking backdrop of Mount Fuji.

The garden spans approximately 15,000 square meters and is home to nearly 500,000 moss phlox plants of eight different varieties in full bloom. The moss phlox is accompanied by several other varieties of flowers.
Featuring a new photo spot!

What makes this year’s festival special is the addition of a new photo spot – “Traveling on a Pink Sea in a Small Boat.” Take a picture as if you are rowing on a pink ocean and capture the moment. This spot, together with the “The Yellow Door of Happiness,” which became a hit on social media last year, are the two main photo spots where you can snap some great pictures. Post your pictures on Instagram and participate in the photo contest to win prizes such as free passes to Fuji-Q Highland.

While you’re there, don’t miss out on the mouth-watering food stands. With cashless payment now available, it’s easier than ever to get your hands on delicious food such as “Fujiyama ‘lava-fried chicken,'” “Kikyou Shingen Mochi Soft Serve,” and “Yamanashi Peach Butter Koppepan.” Yum!

And if you’re looking for souvenirs, the festival’s gift shop has you covered with many original products such as “Fuji Shibazakura Limited Edition Kikyo Shingen Mochi” and “FUJIYAMA COOKIE Shibazakura Limited Package.” They make perfect gifts for friends and family.
The festival will also coincide with the opening of the Peter Rabbit™ English Garden at Fuji Motosuko Resort and the Blue Garden at La Ville de Gaspard Et Lisa, located about 40 minutes away by car at Fuji-Q Highland. So, grab your camera and head over to the Fuji Shibazakura Festival for a day of fun, food, and flowers!
