Full moon: When the ‘Beaver Moon’ lunar eclipse is and the best places to see it in London

A partial eclipse will occur on Friday (November 18), across the UK and stargazers will flock to the best viewing spots in London to see it.

The Beaver Moon is the name for the full moon in November and is named in accordance with the Farmer’s Almanac.

It will be the last full moon before the winter solstice.

A partial solar eclipse will make this a winter solstice like no other, as the Earth, moon, and sun will all line up, causing the Earth’s shadow to project onto the moon.

UK viewers will only be able to see the start of the eclipse before moonset, at around 8.59am.

Stargazers are in for a treat this week, as meteor showers are expected in the skies on November 17 and Orinioid meteor shower due on November 21.

Any park or viewing platform would make a good place to observe the Beaver Moon, but we reckon these three spots are the best ones you’ll find in London.

Primrose Hill

An evergreen classic for public chilling, from Primrose Hill you can see the entire capital unfolding in front of you.

Naturally, the leafy expanse would prove fruitful for anyone wanting to get a good look at the Beaver Moon. Make sure you wrap up warm – maybe bring some mulled wine!

Greenwich

You can’t really go wrong with South East London. After all, the observatory was built there for a reason, so where better place to watch the skies as the Beaver Moon rises into view than the spot where GMT was literally invented?
