Police are on high alert after receiving intelligence reports indicating that the Islamic terror group al-Shabaab is planning a series of attacks during this festive season.
Madaraka Sub County Commander Timothy Odingo said the militants are planning attacks within Nairobi to disrupt the Christmas festivities.
In an internal memo seen by TUKO.co.ke, Odingo, in turn, called for increased surveillance to avert the incursion.
The areas believed to be targeted by the Somali-based terror group include the Presbyterian Guest House and Conference Centre in South C and Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in South B.

The Capital Centre, Garden City, T-Mall and Nairobi West Mall have also been marked as possible targets.
“The group may also be targeting other guest houses and conference centres owned by churches as well as Christmas and New Year’s eve celebrations,” the police said.
Odingo called for the deployment of armed security officers in and around the aforementioned areas, impromptu roadblocks and vehicle searches and increased patrols.
War on terror in Kenya intensifies
This latest development comes amid the arrest of the six individuals believed to have escaped training from an al-Shabaab camp in Somalia.
The suspects were nabbed by police officers who pitched camp in North Eastern Kenya.
According to a police report, the six were accosted separately as they tried to sneak into Kenya after encountering a hostile environment in the militia training camps.

A source privy to the matter disclosed that the al-Shabaab enlisted members from Ethiopia, Tanzania and Kenya by promising them lucrative privileges and salary but end up shortchanging them once they enrol into the camp.
The disagreement on pay and the offer made before they were recruited and onboarded into the terror group is what forces them to flee through Kenya.
