Paris (dpa) – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has described the Olympic Games in Paris as exemplary. “Massive congratulations to our French friends,” he said, explaining that “what has been achieved here in Paris is truly wonderful. These are great games that also promote the Olympic Games and the spirit associated with them.”
Scholz has already attended the games twice, also visiting the “German House” in which among other things the German delegation meets guests and the press at the Olympics. Scholz sees the Paris games as an inspiration for a possible German bid in the future. “This is the spirit of Olympic excellence, fairness and cooperation. That is extremely important in the world in which we live. That’s why I am so pleased by what we are experiencing here and hope this could be a bit contagious,” Scholz said during a visit to the German House. Just a few days ago, German organisations decided to work towards a bid to host the 2040 Summer Olympics, which would mark the 50th anniversary of German reunification.
