Brasília (dpa/d.de) – Germany and Brazil are keen to boost skilled worker immigration. German Labour Minister Hubertus Heil and his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Marinho signed a declaration of intent for “fair immigration”. Its objective is to create simplified structures for promoting skilled worker immigration in both directions. One of the areas in focus is nursing care. “It is important to me that everyone should benefit from skilled worker immigration,” explained Labour Minister Heil. He said that people who come to Germany need fair conditions. And that this should also benefit the country they come from.
Heil was visiting Brazil together with Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock as part of a trip to Latin America. Together, they promoted Germany as a country that offers good working and living conditions. Brazil is the largest country in South America, as well as Germany’s leading trade partner there.
At the start of her six-day visit to Brazil, Colombia and Panama, Baerbock met with Brazilian Environment Minister Marina Silva. Afterwards, the German minister warned: “If the Amazon were to tip over, the global climate would tip over too.” The Brazilian Amazon region – which is roughly as large as western Europe – is regarded as an important CO2 store.
