London (dpa) – Germany has pledged additional humanitarian aid for Ukraine worth 381 million euros for the current year. In a speech to the Ukraine Recovery Conference in London, Germany’s Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said the money was earmarked for generators, food and tents, amongst other things. German aid to Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s war of aggression now amounted to 16.8 billion euros, she said, but she stressed that
in the long term, money alone would not be enough. “We’re helping Ukraine to invest in renewables and energy efficiency,” she said, adding that this would make it possible to rebuild Ukraine in a green way, which would therefore be resilient and sustainable.
The Ukraine Recovery Conference in London aims to lay the foundations for rebuilding Ukraine. The focus is on how to encourage private businesses to invest in the country, which has been shaken by Russia’s war of aggression.
