Berlin (d.de) – Germany’s longest suspension bridge and the world’s longest Tibetan-style suspension bridge was opened in Willingen, Hesse, today. The bridge over the winter sport resort is 665m long and 100m high at its highest point. The bridge is 1.45m wide and can carry up to 750 people at once. A ‘Tibetan-style’ bridge hangs freely over a valley and is constructed without tall pillars or supports or guy wires. This gives tourists an uninterrupted view of the panorama of the Rothaar Mountains with deep green forests. Hydraulic cylinders make it possible to stiffen the bridge to reduce swaying in strong winds.
