The second instalment in Dave Letele’s series Heavyweight explores the realities of gang life and its impact on communities.
Titled Patched, it features firsthand experiences and conversations with current and former gang members, academics, and police. It aims to shed light on the challenges faced by many and the broader implications for society.
Initially the concept of communications and strategy consultancy These Guys I Know, Heavyweight with Dave Letele was designed to create a platform and elevate the work of Dave Letele in the community, exploring important societal topics through the lens of lived experience.
Go Media, who was also recently honoured with the 2024 Beacon Award for Sales Team of the Year, has a history of supporting community initiatives and this partnership underscores its dedication to advancing conversations that move Aotearoa forward.

The out-of-home advertising provided by Go Media ensures visibility for Heavyweight with Dave Letele, enhancing the series’ reach and impact. The new chapter of the series continues to tackle pressing issues in New Zealand, with the premiere episode focusing on the impact of alcohol and addiction. It featured personal stories from renowned Advertising Executive Kate Smith and former All Black Zac Guildford and is available on demand on TVNZ+.
Directed by Ant Farac (formerly of MediaWorks, Bro’Town) and Tuki Laumea (Al Jazeera, Tiki Lounge), the series is produced by Mario Gaoa (Naked Samoans, Bro’Town, We Are Still Here) and Eileen Lee (Paddy Gower “On”, Tiki Lounge), with executive producers Dave Letele (BBM), Amanda Wilson (These Guys I Know), and Kelly Martin (South Pacific Pictures).
Letele says, “There are many issues that we face in New Zealand right now. There are heavy conversations to be had. Whilst these topics are heavy, I hope this show is seen as a story of hope.”
With Go Media’s ongoing support and help with funding from NZ on Air, the series continues to highlight significant societal issues and foster a sense of hope and progress.
