So, it seems that Google is getting all its ducks in a row in regard to its messaging platforms. Hangouts has been laid to rest, and the company is going all in on Google Chat. However, the company is still bringing improvements to the platform. Google announced (via Android Police)that starting group chats in Google Chat will be much faster.
We should all be familiar with Google’s multiple attempts at starting a messaging service. The company was starting them and dropping them left and right, leaving users transferring their data over to a new platform more than they’d like. Google Hangouts was the most recent platform to bite the dust, and we’re all a bit wary about how long Chat is going to last.
In any case, Google Chat will make starting group chats faster
So, this new change isn’t quite a make-or-break for the platform. It’s a smaller change, but it’s still nice to have. Currently, when you want to start making a group chat using the web version, the only way that you can do so is by clicking on the dedicated button. It’s not the end of the world, but it’s just another button to click.
However, starting soon, the company will push an update that will streamline the workflow just a bit. The update is going to eliminate the Start group chat button altogether. Instead, if you want to start a group chat, all you have to do is start typing in the name of the contacts you want to add. Once you add more than one person, it will automatically start populating a new group chat.
It’s a minor change that you’ll mostly feel if you’re used to creating group chats all the time. It eliminates one step in the process.
The rollout for this feature is going to be a bit slow. Some domains are on the “Rapid Release” schedule. This release started on January 11th and it will take place over the next couple of weeks. As for everyone else, the rollout will start on February 3rd, and it will last a few weeks. So, you’ll most likely be waiting a while for this update.
