Government made an announcement on the opening of the Kenol – Sagana – Marua – Nyeri (A2) road which has been under construction.
On Friday, December 23, Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) stated that the road would be in use during the festive period.
“The dual carriageway section between Kenol town and Kambiti has been opened to traffic during the festive season,” KeNHA announced.
The Ksh16 billion road that was commissioned by former president Uhuru Kenyatta will help in curbing the heavy traffic snarl-up which has been an issue as the festive season approached.

For safety purposes, KeNHA urged motorists to adhere to traffic rules to minimize road accidents caused by reckless driving.
“Adhere to traffic signs, observe lane discipline, avoid overspeeding and overlapping which may result in accidents and unnecessary inconveniences,” the motorists were directed.
This move came after heavy snarl-ups were witnessed on major roads as Kenyans were caught in their last-minute rush heading upcountry.
Addressing the issue, police spokesperson Dr. Resila revealed that they had recalled all the officers who were on leave to help control the traffic during this festive season.
“Police officers have been recalled from holiday. Traffic officers in the affected areas are currently receiving support from their colleagues from other departments,” she uttered.
The Uhuru’s project was undertaken to expand the road connecting Kenol in Murang’a County from a two-lane single carriageway to a four-lane dual carriageway.
The road stands out as Uhuru’s key legacy project in Mt. Kenya even as he vacated office after 10 years of service.
Uhuru was concerned that farm products were delayed reaching the markets due to the status of the road and that the poor roads also affected locals’ work and trade hence commissioning the project.
