Members of Ogbakor Iwhurohna United States of America (USA) and Canada (OIUSA/Canada), the apex socio-cultural organisation of indigenes of Iwhurohna in Rivers State, have called on President Bola Tinubu to honour Ngozi Kekwaaru, a staff of Eko Hotel and Suites, in Lagos, who returned $70,000 misplaced by one of the hotel’s customers.
In a communiqué issued after the diaspora group’s meeting in July, signed by its President, Patrick Anyawoke, the organisation said Kekwaaru’s singular act was an “excellent moral lesson for Nigeria’s leaders, who occupy both private and public offices at the local, state and federal government levels.”
The communiqué added: “This is also a great lesson for all parents, and, in particular, mothers who are primarily custodians of children in our society.”
A member of the organisation, Chindah Wami, noted that the recognition is in order, because of the heartwarming moral integrity that Kekwaaru displayed at a time the country needed individuals and leaders who exemplify high moral standard, sincerity and integrity.
Also speaking, Dr. Nneruka Okpara, a member of OIUSA/Canada media team, said: “Kekwaaru’s exemplary action has further lifted Nigeria’s international image positively at a time many people hold negative opinions about the country.
“Some people outside Nigeria erroneously think the country is the home of Internet fraudsters, thieves, robbers, muggers and corrupt officials.”
