A group, Yoruba Youth Socio-Cultural Association (YYSA), on Tuesday, called on the Southwest Governors to emulate Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State by procuring AK47s and other sophisticated weapons for Amotekun officers to protect the region.
Hammed maintained that the step would allow the security outfit to carry out their duties effectively.
He also decried the alarming rate of kidnapping and killing of people in the region.
This was contained in a statement made available to journalists by the National President of the group, Olalekan Hammed.
The youth leader urged the governors to emulate Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State by procuring AK47 and other weapons to secure the region.
He said: “The Southwest governors should emulate Kogi state by procuring AK47 and other sophisticated weapons for Amotekun officers to allow the security outfit to carry out their duties effectively.
“Everybody is aware of the alarming rate of kidnapping and killing of people in our region.
“Ondo and Ekiti state were recently in the news over incessant kidnapping and killing of farmers and other innocent citizens.
“Moreso, a major hindrance to Amotekun operation is lacking of advance weapons to fight criminal elements that are perpetrating evils in Southwest Nigeria.
“It time for our governors to munition our local security outfit known as Amotekun the way Kogi state did in North Central.
“Amotekun can only be fully operational when the needed modern equipment is provided.”
