Egypt s Ali Zein (C) celebrates with teammates after winning the Men s IHF World Handball Championship Group G match between Egypt and Croatia in Joenkoeping, Sweden on January 13, 2023 (AFP)
The Pharaohs dominated the game from the outset and went to the locker room with a 16-12 lead.
Dinamo Bucuresti’s Ali Zein, who was named man of the match, stole the show with an impressive first-half display, scoring three goals.
In the second half, some fine stops from keeper Karim Hendawi and the efficiency of Yehia El-Deraa and Mohsen Ramadan put Croatia to the sword.
Ramadan was particularly impressive, scoring seven goals from as many attempts as Egypt increased their lead to nine goals.
The win is Egypt’s first over Croatia in five World Championship meetings. They moved top of their group with two points, on level with the United States, who claimed an exciting 28-27 victory over Morocco.
Egypt next face Morocco on Sunday before concluding their group-stage campaign against the United States on Tuesday.
