Ranga Chivaviro has had his critics, understandably, but his Kaizer Chiefs career isn’t over just yet.
Ranga has a banger
31-year-old Ranga Chivaviro scored four goals against Al Shahaniya in a resounding 5-2 win for Amakhosi. Mfundo ‘Obrigado’ Vilakazi grabbed the other goal. Obviously this was just a friendly and we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves, but it’s a positive sign and a step in the right direction for Chivaviro. The next step, of course, is for him to prove his mettle in competitive matches. He knows the way to goal, evidenced by his prolific ways in 2022-2023 when he bagged a stunning tally of 17 goals in 29 matches for Marumo Gallants across DStv Premiership and CAF Confederation Cup action. So far, the bright lights and big stages have gotten the better of him but injuries also haven’t helped his progress. A fit and firing Ranga Chivaviro could be a very useful weapon for Kaizer Chiefs come 2024-2025.
Dortley is a talented defensive prospect
According to SoccerLaduma, Chiefs coughed up R6 million to get their man. Interestingly, it’s not a position where the club needs desperate reinforcements, given Thatayaone Ditlhokwe’s and Edmilson Dove’s presence in the group. It’s obvious that the Glamour Boys didn’t want to pass up an opportunity to sign one of the most talented emerging defenders in the land. The 22-year-old is a technically gifted, ball-playing central defender who can start attacks with that cultured left foot. Nasreddine Nabi is known to want his sides to hog possession of the ball, so Dortley will feel right at home and help the new boss execute that philosophy. He might also not be the last Cape Town Spurs star arriving at Chiefs with talk of interest in winger Asanele Velebayi.
Amakhosi’s next test
Chiefs face Young Africans on July 28th in the Toyota Cup in Bloemfontein. Ironically, they are one of Nasreddine Nabi’s old clubs with whom he enjoyed unprecedented success, winning trebles in successive seasons. Dortley will be hopeful of getting some minutes while Chivaviro is understandably keen to keep his scoring purple patch going.
Do you think Chivaviro has a future with Chiefs?
