Super Eagles winger Henry Onyekuru is a regular feature during transfer windows.
From 2015 to date, the Aspire Football Academy product has signed for Eupen, Everton, Anderlecht (loan), Galatasaray (loan), Monaco and Olympiakos from where he linked up with current club Adana Demirspor on loan.
The forward always has different reasons for each move, Onyekuru in a chat with FANATIK revealed a special connection with Morrocan Midfielder Younés Belhanda as reason for his recent loan move to Adana Demirspor.
WHAT HENRY ONYEKURU SAID
” I think if I remember correctly, Belhanda said something like ‘If you don’t come to Adana Demirspor, I will cut your head off, I will break your head. (Laughing) Of course, it was a joke,”
” The reason why he wanted to is that we already have a friendship from the past, we played together on the field. On this occasion, he asked me to come, thinking that we would better understand and adapt to each other on the field. It was such a moment.”
THEIR GALATASARAY LINK
Onyekuru and Belhanda were teammates at Turkish top-flight side Galatasaray.
While the Nigeria Super Eagles winger Henry Onyekuru starred for Galatasaray on loan, first in 2018/2019 before returning in 2020/2021, Morrocan Midfielder Younés Belhanda was a bonafide part of the team from 2017-2021.
During this time, both players developed a special connection and friendship which was key when Adana Demirspor came calling for his services in the last transfer window.
2022 WORLD CUP MISS
Both players missed the 2022 FIFA World Cup for different reasons.
Onyekuru’s Nigeria failed to qualify for the global showpiece in Qatar, the Eagles failing at the playoffs to Ghana.
Belhanda will feel dissapointed being omitted from Morroco’s historic World Cup set.
The Atlas Lions became the first African nation to reach the last four at a FIFA World Cup before France ended their World Cup dreams in the Semi-final on Wednesday evening.
WHEN WILL ONYEKURU AND BELHANDA TASTE ACTION AGAIN
Onyekuru and Belhanda will be in action when Adana Demirspor face Risespor in the Turkish Cup fifth-round fixture on December 22.
That will come three days before Turkish Super Lig action resumes on December 25.
Adana Demirspor are placed third on the 13-team league table with 24 points from 13 matches.
Their next league fixture will be against Fatih Karagumruk at The New Adana Stadium on December 25.
