STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The U.S. News and World Report released its annual ranking of the top high schools across the United States, including those on Staten Island.
U.S. News ranked more than 17,000 public high schools, out of a review of more than 24,000 high schools in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
High schools were ranked by six indicators of school quality, including college readiness, college curriculum breadth, math and reading proficiency, math and reading performance and graduation rates.
Staten Island Technical High School finished seventh in the statewide ranking and 63rd among the top 100 schools in the country.
According to U.S. News, the highest-ranked schools in the country are those where: students excelled on state tests, performing beyond expectations; participated in and passed a variety of college-level exams, and graduated in high proportions.
Each high school received a score out of 100, depending on indicators.
Schools near the bottom of the list are not assigned a specific ranking, but are instead grouped together. On Staten Island, this includes Concord High School and New Ventures Charter School.
