The event, held at the United Center in Chicago, drew thousands of supporters for Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee.
Following the striking of the gavel, Bhatt was invited to the stage to offer prayers before the delegates. He recited sacred verses in Sanskrit, later explaining their significance in English, highlighting the theme of global unity and peace.
The prayer session was followed by the singing of the national anthem, uniting the diverse crowd in a moment of reflection.
New Jersey Senator Cory Booker also spoke during the evening, declaring that the DNC is “about freedom.” He took a moment to honor New Jersey Representative Bill Pascrell Jr, who passed away earlier in the day. “We are sad for his loss but we celebrate his life,” Booker remarked, capturing the somber yet hopeful mood of the gathering.
The highlight of the evening is expected to be the addresses by Kamala Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and former President Bill Clinton, both of whom will headline the third night of the convention. Other prominent figures scheduled to speak include House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
The convention continues to draw attention as it builds momentum for the Democratic campaign, with its focus on unity, freedom, and the future of America.
