HMD Global, the powerhouse behind the Nokia branded smartphones and tablets, has today launched its latest ¨ultra tough¨ Nokia XR21, which the company has stated will cure ‘phone-xiety’ – the fear of dropping, damaging or not having a working phone – thanks to its certifiably tough durability and reassuring two-day battery life.
Nokia XR21 is drop, dust, and waterproof and is crafted around a die-cast 100% recycled aluminium chassis; and is protected by a body made of durable materials and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus display, all designed and certified to withstand impacts.
Speaking at the launch of the Nokia XR21, Brenden Folitarik, HMD Global’s Country Manager for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands has stated:
“We know Australians love their smartphones and that they go through a lot of wear and tear in their lifetime. From parents of toddlers to tradies and outdoor adventure-lovers, the Nokia XR21 has been built for every day and for everyone.
“We’re so confident, you can take the Nokia XR21 anywhere in Australia where you can capture those special moments, and should the worst happen, we offer a one-year screen replacement guarantee,”
The launch of the Nokia XR21 comes after HMD Global conducted new research which showed 62% of Australians have dropped their smartphone and smashed the screen in the past, with the average Australian living with a smashed phone screen for up to four months before they get it fixed.
The research also showed that 74% agree that our phones should be built to last longer. Over three quarters say a lasting battery is the most important factor 77% when looking for a new phone, followed by its durability 69% and a good camera 67%.
The Nokia XR21 comes with a 6.49-inch PS LCD (1080 x 2400 @ 120Hz refresh rate) and is powered by an Octa Core Snapdragon 695 5G chipset processor, 6GB RAM, 128GB onboard storage though it’s unclear if this can be expanded via MicroSD card.
In terms of cameras, the Nokia XR21 comes with a dual rear camera set-up comprising a 64 MP Main camera lens and an 8 MP Ultrawide sensor lens. The front facing camera is a 16MP camera lens.
The Nokia XR21 comes with a USB-C port and charging cord alongside 33W fast charging support, a 4800 mAh non-removable battery, Bluetooth version 5.1, 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax-ready and 3.5mm audio jack port.
The Nokia XR21 will be able to be purchased from the Nokia website alongside JB Hi-Fi stores and online for $799 and will come in colour variants, Midnight Black and Pine Green.
