Huddersfield Town have sacked Mark Fotheringham as manager with the club sat 22nd in the Sky Bet Championship.
Fotheringham was appointed in late September following Danny Schofield’s disastrously short tenure in charge, yet was unable to lift the Terriers out of the relegation zone across his spell at the club during which they spent eight weeks sat rock-bottom.
Last night’s 2-2 draw at relegation rivals, Blackpool, however proved the final straw for club bosses who opted for a second managerial change of the season, after Fotheringham had led the Terriers to just five league wins in his 20 games in charge.
In a short but brief club statement released on their website, Huddersfield issued the following public comment on Fotheringham’s departure: ‘Huddersfield Town can confirm that it has terminated the contract of Head Coach Mark Fotheringham with immediate effect.
‘His assistant, Kenny Miller, has also left the Club.’
Huddersfield concluded their statement by announcing Narcis Pelach as ‘Interim Head Coach’ for Saturday’s crunch visit to Wigan, in what will be another relegation six-pointer showdown for the Terriers who sit one point from safety.
This decision also comes less than 24 hours after their former manager, Carlos Corberan – who left during pre-season – signed a new two-year contract extension at West Bromwich Albion, on top of his current contract which was set to expire in June 2025.
Speaking about his decision to commit his future to West Brom, Corberan said: “I have enjoyed my time at Albion, and I am pleased to have secured a contract extension. I would like to thank my staff, the players, and our fantastic supporters for their help in making my time here so positive.”
Corberan also added that he believes that he is “confident” that the Baggies can achieve “success” if they continue to work together well, although he iterated that his players must continue to “improve every day, making the team more and more competitive for the challenges ahead.”
