Iconic F1 team owner, Eddie Jordan has passed away at the age of 76.
Jordan was diagnosed with prostrate and bladder cancer in 2024 and after a lengthy battle, he passed away in the early hours of Thursday (20 March) morning.
The 76 year-old has held a long-lasting relationship with motorsport, having previously been a racing driver himself before he became a team owner and eventually founded Jordan Grand Prix, which participated in F1 between 1991 – 2005 and took four victories.
Their most famous victory came in 1998 when Damon Hill clinched a wet win at that season’s Belgian Grand Prix ahead of teammate, Ralf Schumacher in their first one-two finish in F1.
Wins in 1999 French and Italian plus 2003 Brazilian Grands Prix eventually followed before the team was sold to Midland F1 Racing in 2005, although the latter was confirmed upon appeal following a chaotic finish under red flag conditions.
Jordan went on to become a pundit for BBC’s coverage of F1 in 2009 and continued in the role following Channel 4’s acquisition of the UK free-to-air broadcasting rights in 2013.
“We are deeply saddened to hear about the sudden loss of Eddie Jordan,” commented F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali upon learning of Jordan’s death.
“With his inexhaustible energy he always knew how to make people smile, remaining genuine and brilliant at all times.
“Eddie has been a protagonist of an era of F1 and he will be deeply missed.
“In this moment of sorrow, my thoughts and those of the entire Formula 1 family are with his family and loved ones.”
Former BBC F1 presenter, Jake Humphrey paid his own personal tribute on social media platform, X, in which he spoke of Jordan’s ability to “hustle his way into the sport” and win hearts across teams and fans alike.
Utterly devastated.
EJ has left us.
Formula One won’t see the likes of Eddie ever again where a guy with a love for racing can hustle his way into the sport and end up winning races.
More important than race wins though, he won hearts. I will never forget how his face would… pic.twitter.com/GarukuYLDS
