Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lebohang Maboe has admitted that losing Rulani Mokwena was not a pleasure, but the club’s decision has to be accepted.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS’ LABOHANG MABOE ACCEPTS RULANI MOKWENA’S EXIT
Speaking to the media since Mokwena left Kabo Yellow before joining Wydad Casablanca in Morocco, the 29-year-old Maboe described Mokwena’s exit to the loss of a family member.
“Honestly, I think it’s not nice losing a family member,” Maboe told iDiski Times.
“Even though we just worked together, we spend a lot of time together and in that process a lot of relationships are formed. Just because we spend a lot of time together we regard one another as family.
“Obviously, it wasn’t nice but I mean we have to respect the team’s decision and from now on we just have to look forward to the season that’s upcoming,” the Sundowns midfielder concluded.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS ANNOUNCE THEMBA ZWANE DEAL
In what is his 10th season, Mamelodi Sundowns maestro Themba Zwane put pen to paper on a new one-year deal. Coach Manqoba Mngqithi has explained why the extension was short for the 35-year-old legend from Tembisa.
The Betway Premiership and African Football League champions finally announced the new contract extension last Saturday.
“We are delighted to announce that our captain Themba Zwane has signed a 1-year extension with The Brazilians!” the club said via X.
Zwane’s agent, Jazzman Mahlakgane, believes the Bafana Bafana star is a special breed that could go on until 40.
“You know the quality of Themba, you shouldn’t confuse it with his age or anything because it might get mixed up with that. Look at the quality of Themba not how old he is.
“The level at which Themba plays, for me, without being biased because he’s my player, he could give this country and his clubs another two to three years, it’s that simple.
“And I think this is a conversation that’s no longer a secret that I communicated with Sundowns, to say someone like him at this level, looking after himself so well, he’s not a night sleeper,” Mahlakgane added on the Kabo Yellow maestro.
“For me, he should be rewarded as long as he can play. I was encouraged when I watched the Euro that between [Critiano] Ronaldo and Pepe, one is 39 and one is 41.
“These guys can play like a 25-year-old, so, I think the two players at that level, they’ve given us an opportunity to start looking at the players’ qualities not how old they are and Themba is one player who must lead that conversation,” Mahlakgane concluded.
