Upon learning that the Rockets would be selecting fourth in this year’s draft, Victor Wembanyama appeared to celebrate. The clip of the France wunderkind quickly went viral. Consequently, Houston forward Jabari Smith Jr. publicly noted Wembanyama’s jubilation.
Smith Jr. took to Twitter to not-so-cryptically tell the world that he’ll remember Wembanyama’s exuberance at finding out he will not be playing for the Rockets. The 20-year-old Tweeted the writing emoji. Thus, implying that he’s ‘noted’ Wembanyama’s actions and that he’ll remember it when they play next season.
The Rockets drafted Smith Jr. with the third pick in last year’s draft. In his rookie campaign, he averaged 12.8 points and 7.2 rebounds. Also, he made All-Rookie Second Team.
Wembanyama is going to the Spurs
San Antonio won the draft lottery on Tuesday, making Wemanyama unofficially a Spur. The generational prospect spoke highly about the relationship between France and the Spurs organization. Furthermore, he said, “The whole country wanted the Spurs to have the first pick.”
“There’s a special relation between France and the Spurs because of Tony,” Wembanyama said. “Of course and also Boris. I know half of the country, if not the whole country wanted the Spurs to have the first pick.
Not to brag about it but I knew what was going to happen. And I actually recorded myself saying it this morning walking to practice. Yeah, the universe told me. Dreams, feelings, it happens sometimes but it’s never wrong. It’s always right.”
The NBA draft is on June 22.
