Striker, Jamie Vardy has signed an one-year contract extension to remain at Leicester until June 2024.
Vardy’s current contract was set to expire at end of this season on 30 June 2023 but the 35 year-old has opted to sign a fresh one-year contract extension, which keeps him at the King Power Stadium until June 2024.
His decision to extend his contract comes just days after he was linked with a move to Manchester United, as the Red Devils desperately look to sign an experienced striker to lead their attack after a failed move for Marko Arnautovic.
Speaking to LCFC TV after he signed his new deal, Vardy commented: “I’m obviously over the moon. Once I heard it was something the Club was looking at, there was only one thing that was going to happen, and I was going to sign it. The decision was easy.”
May saw Vardy celebrate a decade at the club during which he has helped spearhead the Foxes to promotion in 2013-14 Championship season as champions, before scoring in 11 consecutive league matches as Leicester won a shock Premier League title two seasons later.
Vardy more recently has helped Leicester win their maiden FA Cup title in May 2021 followed by Community Shield a few months later, even though European success has eluded the Foxes so far throughout his spell at the club.
The 35 year-old though is confident that the Foxes are moving in the right direction after enduring a difficult 2021-22 season, as he added: “I’ve been here long enough now that I feel like part of the furniture.
“I think you can see with the way we’re trying to play, the way the Club’s wanting to go, that it’s going to be onwards and upwards.
“To carry on being involved with that, I was over the moon. Now it’s all about this season and finishing as high as we can.”
On his decision to continue at Leicester as he hits the twilight years of his playing career, Vardy said: “My legs are still feeling great so I’ll carry that on helping the Club as much as I can, whether that’s scoring or assisting, that’s what I’m here to do.”
Confirmation of Vardy’s contract extension comes just hours before Leicester host Southampton in their latest match of 2022-23 Premier League season on Saturday (20 August).
