John Legend is expecting another child with his wife, Chrissy Teigen. The family’s expansion comes nearly two years after Chrissy suffered a miscarriage. John recently opened up about the death of his and Chrissy’s baby, Jack, during a an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs.
“Way more people than anybody realizes go through this,” John shared of his and Chrissy’s miscarriage during the conversation. The recording artist’s wife decided to share pictures that captured the moments following their son’s stillborn delivery. Some scrutinized John and Chrissy for sharing the photos with the world. Others praised the couple for exhibiting bravery and a willingness to help others struggling with the effects of miscarriage.
“They told us they felt alone a lot of times, and us sharing our experience helped people feel less alone and feel like there were other people going through it and there was a community of people going through it,” John Legend said of the positive response he and Chrissy received after being transparent with their journey. “It’s hard to try to comfort anyone that’s going through it because there’s no real comfort,” the recording artist shared.
“You’re always going to feel that loss,” John added. “It kind of spreads over time, so it doesn’t feel as heavy over time, but you’ll never forget it.”
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen held a memorial for their late son last September, which was around the time Jack arrived stillborn. The celebrity couple included their older children, Miles and Luna, in the ceremony. John’s forthcoming album also addresses the pain he and Chrissy endured after losing their youngest son.
“Some of the songs are about coping with loss and grief and when you feel broken,” the recording artist shared with Desert Island Discs. “Those experiences I was able to channel into the music.”
John Legend’s new album, LEGEND, comes to music stores and digital platforms on September 19, 2022.
