Orlando Pirates could face the same situation as they did with Ruud Krol in 2011 when the current season ends.
And that’s because Jose Riveiro’s contract is expiring in June, and the Spaniard mentor is still undecided.
According to a source known to Soccer Laduma, Pirates have tabled a new three-year offer for Riveiro.
However, the latest report is that Riveiro has requested that he decides at the end of the season.
The source said Riveiro’s biggest ambition is to win the Betway Premiership, and should that happen, he could leave Pirates.
The reason is that he would have achieved almost everything with Pirates, according to the same source.
Riveiro has, so far, won FIVE major trophies with Pirates – that being the MTN8 Cup thrice and the Nedbank Cup twice.
Now, with Pirates sitting at the top of the Betway Premiership standings, they are strong favourites to dethrone Mamelodi Sundowns.
Furthermore, Riveiro being homesick could also play a part in him leaving Pirates, according to the report.
Riveiro had to be excused for a few immediately after the MTN8 Cup final – he left to see his family in Spain.
ORLANDO PIRATES COACH JOSE RIVEIRO MAY LEAVE
“There is an offer for the coach to continue for another three years, but he has asked to wait until the end of the season,” said the source.
“His main wish is to win the league, and if that happens, he may leave because he misses home.”
“He hasn’t been with his family for almost three years, and winning the league title would mean he has achieved almost everything in local football.
“The league title may decide the coach’s future. That’s what’s believed as things stand,” concluded the source.
WILL RIVEIRO STAY OR NOT?
