Pennsylvania Gov Josh Shapiro speaks like former president Barack Obama, as many like JD Vance has recently pointed out. With the VP selection of Kamala Harris narrowing down between Shapiro and Tim Walz, a lot of dirt on Shapiro is out in open — because of his stance on Israel. But Barack Obama spoke highly of Shapiro as their relationship goes a long way. They know each other since 2006 and Shapiro, as the Pennsylvania state representative, backed Barack Obama in 2007 as the president. Obama in 2008 lost Pennsylvania primary to Hillary Clinton but won the presidency.
According to a New York Times report, the two have remained in touch since then and Obama, from day one, thought that Shapiro had a super high political ceiling.
Josh Shapiro — eye of the controversy
Shapiro is Jewish and the left wing of the Democratic party is pushing for Tim Walz. Shapiro has also been accused of shoddily handling a sexual harassment complaint against his aide Michael A Vereb. Vereb was accused of making repeated and graphic sexual overtures to an employee and then criticizing her performance when she refused. She resigned and complained against Vereb. Vereb continued to work for Shapiro six months after the complained and resigned only when the news was reported in media.
Shapiro’s stand on the Israel issue is another concern for many Democrats. In April, Shapiro said that elements of pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses were engaging in antisemitism.
‘If I really tried to do a bad impression of Barack Obama’
Donald Trump’s running mate JD Vance recently spoke about Shapiro and the similarities his speaking style shares with Obama. “”Josh Shapiro from Pennsylvania, who, you know, I’ve seen a couple of clips of him talking. He talks like Barack Obama,” Vance said. “It’s like if I really tried to do a bad impression of Barack Obama, that’s what it would sound like.”
Shapiro replied to it dropping hints that he may be debating JD Vance as the VP pick. “If he wants to sling insults in my direction, which I’m not even sure it’s an insult, let him do it. Bring it on,” Shapiro said. “I’m ready for whatever the hell JD Vance throws my direction.”
