Darwin Nunez’s performance was lauded by Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Fulham on Saturday.
Aleksandar Mitrovic goals gave Liverpool the lead twice at Craven Cottage, but goals from Nunez and Mohamed Salah meant that Klopp’s team came away from the game with a point.
Nunez, a summer acquisition from Benfica for £85 million, started his debut Premier League match on the bench but was introduced in the 51st minute to boost Liverpool’s mediocre assault.
The Uruguayan international put on a strong showing in Liverpool’s attack and had the opportunity to score multiple goals.
Nunez, according to Klopp, “needs this extra resolve in a situation like that when we don’t really find a solution in front of the goal, and the difference as well, it makes it harder for the opponent, clearly.”
A fantastic goal, but they should have scored two, crazy. He is therefore frequently involved in circumstances that result in goals, which is awesome and the reason we had to mention him.
Think about how often we could set him up if we played well. Since our delivery was frequently subpar, it was clear that this was the biggest issue we were having. Nevertheless, it was okay because we had such a large window of opportunity.
We had a few really excellent situations, but in between these situations, we just didn’t play well, so if I watched it back or if you watched the highlights, you might completely misunderstand this game.
Luis Diaz is a terrific player, a fantastic player, but today he had a tremendous chance, a super chance, Klopp said when asked about the performance.
“On a day like this, it’s really not easy for offensive players because they defend heavily from how they get set up and how the deliveries are, and we didn’t play well enough to bring them in at the correct moments,” the offensive player said.
But when we were there, you could instantly tell how skilled Lucho is, how close he is to a crossbar or post, to be precise.
Yes, he is a terrific player, but he has the potential to play much better, just like many South Americans.
