Martha Koome is the first female chief justice of the Republic of Kenya.
She enjoys an illustrious career, having risen from a woman rights activist to head the third arm of government – the Judiciary.
Koome was appointed chief justice in May 2021 following a successful interview by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

Kagwiria Koome’s profile
According to her LinkedIn profile, Kagwiria is the manager, food initiative at the Rockefeller Foundation.
She has worked at the multi-billion organisation for eight years.
Forbes reported that the foundation was founded in 1858 by the Rockefeller family, ranked 43rd on the list of America’s richest families in 2020, with a net worth of $8.4 billion (KSh 1.015 trillion).
Since its inception, the foundation has distributed over $22 billion (KSh 2.7 trillion) to charity, according to its website.
Kagwiria’s education
Just like her mother, Kagwiria studied law. She obtained her bachelor of law degree from Keele University in Newcastle, England.
She then proceeded to the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England, where she graduated with a master’s of arts in development studies.

Kagwiria’s career
The beautiful woman worked as a senior consultant at Deloitte from January 2007 to November 2012.
She then joined Dalberg Global Development Advisors and worked as a consultant until August 2014.
Having garnered business analysis and intelligence skills, she was employed by the Rockefeller Foundation and steadily climbed up the ladder to manage the food initiatives sector.
“I manage a high-impact grant portfolio in the food sector, providing me with extensive experience in the management of complex development projects, Excellent skills in stakeholder and relationship management and leading high-performing teams,” she wrote on her LinkedIn profile.
Kagwiria said she’s inspired by her father, who works as an agricultural extension officer.
She regularly consults him on her work.
“He worked largely with smallholder farmers in central Kenya to provide agronomy support. When I began working on the YieldWise initiative, I went to him for counsel,” she wrote In an article titled Let’s Collect and Preserve the Advice of Experts published on The Rockefeller Foundation.
