Kaizer Chiefs’ latest signing, Inacio Miguel, is on the brink of finalising his move to the Soweto giants, according to Kick Off.
After weeks of speculation, Amakhosi fans are eagerly awaiting the official announcement of their new centre-back. The 28-year-old defender has reportedly agreed to verbal terms with the club, with the move pending only a medical examination.
Miguel hinted at his imminent transfer via Instagram, sharing a photo from a plane, which fans believe is heading to South Africa. If completed, Miguel will become the fifth new addition for Kaizer Chiefs this transfer window, following Fiacre Ntwari, Bongani Sam, Gaston Sirino, and Rushwin Dortley, all of whom have already joined the team for preseason training.
Chiefs face foreign player dilemma
Miguel’s arrival presents a challenge for Chiefs, who currently have five foreign players on their roster— the maximum allowed by the league. This situation necessitates that the club either loan out or sell one of their current foreign players. The foreign slots are currently occupied by Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Edmilson Dove, Christian Saile, Edson Castillo, and Ntwari.
Initial speculation suggests that the Naturena-based side might choose to de-register Edmilson Dove. Dove, who is recovering from a serious injury sustained during Chiefs’ preseason tour in Turkey, might be the player affected.
Amakhosi players in final year
In other news, the 2024/2025 Betway Premiership season kicks off, Kaizer Chiefs players in the final year of their contracts face intense pressure to secure new deals. The team will start their campaign with an away match against Marumo Gallants, making it a critical time for these players to prove their worth.
Captain Yusuf Maart, whose contract expires this season, is under the spotlight. The midfielder, who joined from Sekhukhune United on a three-year deal, has been a key figure in the midfield. New head coach Nasreddine Nabi highly values Maart and sees him as integral to his tactical plans. Maart’s contract includes an extension option, but his future will largely depend on his performance this season.
Another player in a similar situation is versatile defender Reeve Frosler. Previously with Bidvest Wits, Frosler remains a crucial part of the squad. The decision on his future will likely hinge on his form and contributions throughout the season.
Having missed out on the MTN8, Kaizer Chiefs will resume competitive football on September 14, facing Marumo Gallants at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, the venue where they last played.
As Kaizer Chiefs’ latest signing is set to be confirmed, the club navigates key transfers and contract situations, aiming to strengthen their squad and secure valuable victories.
