Kaizer Chiefs ramp up their pursuit of Stellenbosch star by offering R13 million, according to Soccer Laduma.
Chiefs remain unwavering in their idea of getting Stellenbosch FC defender Fawaaz Basadien, despite reports suggesting the deal was off. Sources close to the club reveal that Chiefs have submitted an improved offer, now around R13 million, aiming to persuade Stellies to reconsider.
Originally, Chiefs offered R10 million for Basadien, but Stellenbosch FC rejected the bid. “They have now offered a new and improved amount of around R13 million. It’s not clear whether that’s what Stellies are looking for because they turned down R10 million at first. The club is really interested in Basadien and they are doing all in their powers to have him but you know it will all depend if the new offer of about R13 million is good enough for Stellenbosch,” said a source.
The club’s urgency increased following an injury to Bongani Sam, highlighting the need for an experienced left-back alongside Happy Mashiane and Nkosana Mbuthu. A second insider noted.
“They want to make sure that when they start the season they have an experienced left back as now they only have Happy Mashiane and Nkosana Mbuthu while Bongani Sam is out injured. As much as the coach wants to keep the youngsters to gain experience and build a future team, he wants two experienced left backs to compete and back up each other. That’s why the club had tabled a new offer for Fawaaz (Basadien). They are hoping that around R13m would swerve Stellenbosch to accept the new offer.”
Thabang Matuludi: The next big signing for Chiefs?
In a related development, Kaizer Chiefs have intensified their bid to sign Thabang Matuludi from Polokwane City, reinforcing their defensive lineup. Chiefs have already bolstered their squad with defenders like Miguel Inacio from Angola, and recent acquisitions Fiacre Ntwari, Gaston Sirino, and Bongani Sam.
Sources confirm that Polokwane City has agreed to allow Matuludi to leave. “The chairman has finally agreed to let Oswin Appollis and Thabang Matuludi go. He had a meeting with the players and is now ready to allow them to go,” the source revealed.
If Chiefs are unable to secure Basadien, they will shift focus to Riaan Hanamub as an alternative to fill the left-back position. With their eyes firmly set on Basadien, Chiefs are making significant moves in the transfer market to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
