Kaizer Chiefs have reshuffled their pack before the new campaign but there’s still some work. Here’s a summary of their transfers.
Kaizer Chiefs focusing on defensive structure first
Bongani Sam, Fiacre Ntwari and Rushwin Dortley are all officially Kaizer Chiefs players. Club supporters could see at least two of them in action against Young Africans in Bloemfontein on Sunday 28 July in the Inaugural Toyota Cup. 22-year-old Dortley was with the group. Meanwhile, former Pirates left-back Sam is still out with a foot injury picked up in pre-season. Ertugral excited by Dortley’s potential
Left-sided central defender Rushwin Dortley arrives from Cape Town Spurs with a big reputation and international experience at age group levels. Ex-Kaizer Chiefs boss Muhsin Ertugral believes he is their standout signing this winter.
“Those are good signings in my opinion. All positions were needed. Especially Rushwin is a very good signing, very talented and after the adjustment he can go far,” the German-Turk said via FARPost.
“Obviously the intensity in the premier league is different. I see him going far in his career. It’s important for the club to be back in the race for titles.
“Competition is growth in the quality. I really hope and wish the club can be back on track,” Ertuğral concluded.
Dolly headlines high-profile exits from Chiefs
Keagan Dolly, Siyethemba Sithebe, Njabulo Ngcobo, Sifiso Hlanti and Jasond Gonzalez are the five confirmed exits from a playing personnel perspective. Dolly, previously the best-paid player in the league, is still without a club. Ngcobo and Hlanti have essentially been replaced by Dortley and Sam respectively, two significantly younger options.
Chiefs miss out on Mokwana
Reports on Sunday indicate that Sekhukhune and Bafana winger Elias Mokwana will be in Tunisia on Tuesday to finalize a switch to Esperance. Amakhosi showed interest in the 24-year-old but their offer wasn’t satisfactory for Babina Noko. Meanwhile, Chiefs face Young Africans from Tanzania in the Inaugural Toyota Cup on Sunday 28 July. Kickoff is at 15:00, but first, it’s the Chiefs Legends vs Bloemfontein Celtic Legends in an exciting curtain-raiser at 12:30.
