Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) unveiled a new time schedule for Kisumu-bound trains after adding more wagons on the route for western Kenya travellers.
According to the schedule, the changes were to take effect from Wednesday, December 21, to January 8, 2023.
The corporation estimated that each train would take up to 12 hours per trip between the two cities.
KRC stated that two trains would leave Nairobi for the Lakeside city on December 21 at 6:30pm and 8:00pm respectively.

The next trains leaving the capital to Kisumu were slated for Friday, December 23, with the wagons leaving at 6:30 pm, 8:00pm and 9:30pm
On December 30, two trains were slated to travel to Kisumu at 6:30pm and 8:00pm respectively while on January 6, 2023, KR indicated that there would only be a 6:30pm train.
On the other end, KR also included trains that would leave the lakeside city to Nairobi.
According to the schedule, two trains would operate on Thursday, December 22 with trains slated to leave at 6:30 pm and 8:00pm.
On the rest of the days; December 24, 26 and January 1, 3 and 8, KR indicated that there would only be one train slated for 6:30pm.
In regard to the price list, KR maintained that they would charge Ksh600 for the economy class while those intending to travel on first class would part ways with Ksh2,000.
The announcement by the corporation came days after Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen ordered for more trains to be added to the route given that buses had sold out their tickets.
He also noted that a number of Kenyans were struggling to find means of transportation for the festivities as a number of buses had raised their fare.
It was revealed that a majority of the buses were charging between Ksh1,400 to Ksh2,500.
