The vetting of 24 members nominated by President William Ruto into his Cabinet dominated the news headlines in the just-ended week.
One of the highlights of the tough yet interesting session was when the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments tasked the nominees to disclose and account for their networth.
In a move that elicited varied reactions on social media, it was established they are worth a combined KSh 15.26 billion.

1. Cabinet nominees’ networth
Among the nominees, the Prime Cabinet Secretary-designate Musalia Mudavadi is the richest after placing his networth at KSh 4 billion, while his Lands counterpart Zachariah Mwangi had the least with KSh 80 million.
After Mudavadi, controversial former senator Mithika Linturi who it emerged has 35 civil cases in the courts, came in a distant second, declaring his net worth at KSh 1.2 billion.
Nominees Simon Chelugui (Cooperatives and MSMEs), Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u (Treasury) and Aden Duale (Defence) each declared their worth to be close to a billion, valuing themselves at KSh 993 million, KSh 950 million and KSh 871 million respectively.
Former Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria (Trade) who was nominated by Ruto as his nominee for the Trade docket disclosed he is valued at KSh 750 million.

Justin Muturi (Attorney General) the former National Assembly speaker stated his net worth stands at KSh 700 million and was followed closely by Eliud Owalo (ICT) at KSh 645 million.
2. Slain George Mwangi feared for his life after dissagreement with wife
Fresh details emerged over the gruesome murder of 58-year-old businessman George Mwangi whose body was found dumped in Kieni forest in Gatundu North.
Mwangi was reportedly killed on October 10, 2022. His politician wife, Gladys Chania, is in custody on suspicion that she killed him over a suspected love triangle.
However, Mwangi, an astute businessman with an interest in real estate, seemingly had a premonition about his death.
One of the deceased’s elder sisters said he had a troubled marriage and they would mostly spend their time at separate homes.
She said that the last conversation she had with him was on Friday, October 7, when he informed her that he was having a deep issue with his wife, Chania.

“He sounded disturbed and we talked for less than two minutes and he hung up. What I remember him telling me is that ‘I am just depressed and I feel like I am close to my death,’” the sister said.
3. Nairobi lady sues Jimnah Mbaru for child upkeep
Last week, a 24-year-old woman moved to court to demand KSh 4.4 million annual child support from Kenyan businessman Jimnah Mbaru.
The lady claimed that Mbaru is the father of her child and opted to seek legal redress to compel him to provide child support over alleged negligence.
Her lawyer, Suyianka Lempaa, claimed the young mother got pregnant with the businessman in 2018.
In the suit papers, among other expenses, she is seeking KSh 320,000 monthly and 600,000 per year for the minor who is enrolled at Kitengela International School located in Kajiado county.
In the monthly expenses, she is seeking KSh 50,000 for food, KSh 50,000 for medical expenses, KSh 50,000 for clothes, KSh 100,000 for shopping, miscellaneous expenses KSh 20,000 and house help KSh 50,000.

4. Low turnout at Uhuru Gardens as Kenyans Mark Mashujaa Day
The attendance by Kenyans at Uhuru Gardens, where this year’s Mashujaa Day fete was held, was seemingly below par.
A spot check into the venue established a low turnout, as evidenced by the empty seats even after the arrival of President William Ruto, who is presiding over the event.
By the time of press, the venue was half-filled as entertainment groups took to the main arena to put up their respective performances to charm the dignitaries.
Kenyans on social media attributed the unimpressive turnout to the sorry state of the economy that continue to bedevil their compatriots.
Others argued that Ruto’s tenure is yet to court many Kenyans who have been opposed to it since its first day.
5. Rigathi Gachagua offers lady behind Riggy G nickname job
As promised, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua rewarded Ivy Chelimo, the lady who coined his now widely used nickname Riggy G.
Miguna Miguna Arrives at JKIA after Nearly 5 Years in Exile, Set to Attend Mashujaa Day Celebration
During a meeting in Kajiado, Gachagua announced that he had offered the Catholic University alumna a job at his official office at Harambee Annex in Nairobi.
Speaking during the Monday, October 17 meeting, Chelimo thanked the second in command, noting that he is very passionate about the youth taking up positions in the Kenya Kwanza government.
6. Miguna Miguna arrives in Kenya after nearly 5 years in exile
After almost five years in exile, the outspoken Kenyan lawyer Miguna Miguna arrived in the country.
The firebrand self-styled general touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) a few minutes after 6 am on Thursday, October 20.
In his speech after his arrival, Miguna thanked Kenyans for voting in President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza government in the August 9 General Election.
From JKIA, he was escorted away by heavy security.
