A police officer in Kisumu is under investigation following a shooting incident in the lakeside city.
The officer is reported to have turned his official weapon on an unarmed civilian in a fit of rage at a liquor shop.
Attached to Kisumu Central Police Station, the officer is alleged to have shot the man thrice in what is reported to be a love triangle.
“A man shot 3 times by a police officer attached to Kisumu Central Police Station over Love triangle at a wines and spirit shop in Kondele,” reported the police

Admitted in hospital
Identified as Kevin Ouma, the victim was rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOORTH) for further treatment.
The Tuesday, January 31 night incident was reported to the Kondele Police Station for further action
“The man identified as Kevin Ouma is currently admitted at JOORTH. The incident occurred on 31/01/2023 late at night and was reported at Kondele Police Station around 0110hrs with OB no: OB-03/31/01/2023,” continued the report.
Ida’s bodyguard shot dead
In a previous incident, a bodyguard attached to Ida Odinga, the wife to former Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party presidential candidate Raila Odinga was shot dead in Kisumu.
A police report indicated that the incident happened in October 2022 at around 3 am.
The incident was reported to the police by Marilyn Marion Ouma, a Victoria Gardens estate resident.
“She had left Dondez Bar & Restaurant as accompanied by her friend Donar Kajwang and a police officer Cpl Barrack Otieno Oduor (now deceased and bodyguard to Dr Ida Odinga),” the report reads in part.
Upon reaching the estate, one Collins Okundi, a manager of Club Signature Kisumu, suddenly appeared, and a scuffle ensued between Marion, Donar Kajwang and Oduor.
“In the process, Okundi disarmed the police officer and fatally shot him twice in the head and leg. Kajwang was shot in the leg and was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu in stable condition,” the report reads.
