In life, it’s good to have options. Let’s say you work in an office. Do you wear the same thing every day? We hope not. Realistically, it would help if you had options. NBA teams need options, too. So do NBA players. In different situations, either can find options – literally.
Some contracts have player options. That means the player can choose whether to renew the deal. After this season, Jordan Clarkson finds himself in that situation.
With the Jazz not being a tanking team as many had expected them to be after trading away Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell, there isn’t necessarily a pressing reason for Clarkson to be motivated to depart.
Clarkson also has a big fan in Jazz owner Ryan Smith, which means he shouldn’t have to worry about job security. However, the nature of the business is to maximize assets. Clarkson has built his trade value up, so why not capitalize on it?
On the other hand, Derrick Rose has a team option on his contract. He is also out of the Knicks’ rotation at the moment. Is there a great set of circumstances for a trade?
Could the two switch sides this season?
