Ah, the NBA offseason. One constant during this time of relative quiet is the GOAT debate. Since 2016, or some might say 2003, the greatest player of all time has been a hot topic. Every year, new information or arguments emerge, but the central cast remains the same—LeBron James, Michael Jordan, and Kobe Bryant, if you’re feeling fancy.
For Austin Reaves, his experience with greatness has been firsthand. An Arkansas kid, he grew up a lifelong Los Angeles Lakers fan, and by extension, a Kobe Bryant admirer. However, when he entered the league, he found himself sharing a locker room with LeBron James. After three seasons together, it seems “HillBilly Kobe” has made up his mind on the legendary debate.
Austin Reaves Chooses His GOAT
At a promotional event in the Philippines, Reaves was asked a series of questions by fans and media. While most of his answers were straightforward, two of his responses stood out. The first was about his relationship with LeBron, which is clearly evident on the court. Whether it’s ball-handling opportunities or on-court coaching, James has really taken Reaves under his wing.
As a result, in just three seasons, Reaves has evolved from a bench-warming rookie to third in line behind LeBron and Anthony Davis. Speaking of that relationship, Reaves wasn’t shy about expressing his gratitude. “For him to treat me the way he treats me since day one has been very special to me. It’s been nothing but love.”

But while those compliments were expected, his next statement caught everyone off guard. When asked about the GOAT debate, Reaves’ answer was clear. Despite his initial admiration for Kobe Bryant, time spent around LeBron has changed his perspective. According to him, his 39-year-old teammate holds the title of the greatest of all time.
LeBron James Doing GOAT Things in Paris
Coming off his 21st season at nearly 40 years old, many expected LeBron to play a secondary role in the Olympics. However, it has become clear that he is far from taking a backseat. In fact, a credible argument can be made that he’s been the best player on Team USA. The stats and eye test confirm his dominance in scoring, passing, and rebounding.
Beyond the box score, LeBron’s impact is undeniable. During team huddles, his leadership and commanding presence are unmistakable. As the first men’s basketball athlete to carry the Olympic torch for the USA, his aura is palpable. His impact on the court has solidified his place at the top of the tournament’s official MVP ladder.
LeBron’s Triple-Double Heroics Propel Team USA
Last night, as Team USA faced a tough challenge against Serbia, LeBron was once again the centerpiece. He finished with a triple-double, only the second in USA men’s Olympic basketball history, and was instrumental in the team’s 17-point comeback to reach the Finals.
In the fourth quarter, he took on the daunting task of guarding Nikola Jokic as Team USA outscored Serbia 33-15 in the period. Offensively, he was everywhere, dishing out assists and finishing tough shots, proving once again why the “LeCaptain America” memes are more than just jokes.
James went on to help guide the United States to a gold medal, showcasing an impressive pairing next to Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, among the other stars on the team.
