People living in the Plains and Midwest will enjoy pleasant temperatures to start the week, but those conditions won’t last long as a cold front is expected to move through the region and will usher in much colder weather.
The FOX Forecast Center is tracking the potent late-week cold front that will drop in from Canada starting Wednesday night, and once it does, a noticeable drop in temperatures will be felt.

Pleasant start to the week in the northern Plains, Upper Midwest
Before the temperature change toward the end of the week, most of the region will enjoy some pleasant temperatures.
Minneapolis will see temperatures in the mid- to upper 70s on Monday and Tuesday before a drop to the lower 70s on Wednesday.
Des Moines, Iowa, will also reach the upper 70s at the beginning of the week, with a drop to the lower 70s midweek before the colder weather arrives on Thursday.
Elsewhere across the northern Plains and Midwest, temperatures will range from the lower 70s in Bismarck, North Dakota, to the upper 70s and lower 80s in Omaha, Nebraska.
The graphic above shows how dramatic the temperature drop will be in parts of the northern Plains and Upper Midwest, like Fargo, North Dakota.
Temperatures there will be in the lower to mid-70s through Wednesday, and the FOX Forecast Center expects temperatures will only reach the upper 40s during the day on Thursday.
Significant temperature drop on the way
The cold front will sweep through the region on Wednesday, and by Thursday, the areas seeing pleasant temperatures early in the week will have temperatures 10 to 20 degrees below average for this time of year.
Minneapolis will be one of the places that will begin to feel the chill starting Thursday.
Temperatures will only be in the lower 50s on Thursday and even colder on Friday, with a high temperature in the upper 40s or lower 50s.
In fact, the FOX Forecast Center expects a widespread frost and freeze from the Dakotas to Michigan on Thursday night.
The colder air will also spread into the interior Northeast by Friday, as highs are expected to remain in the 50s, which is about 10 to 20 degrees below average.
In terms of precipitation, rain showers are expected to move through the Great Lakes and Northeast later this week.
And as the cold air works its way in behind the cold front, the FOX Forecast Center will monitor the chance for some wet snowflakes mixing in with the rain in parts of Michigan and even the highest elevations in the interior Northeast.
