TL;DR
- A leak has provided new details about the Pixel Tablet and the rumored Pixel Tablet Pro.
- The leak revealed Google made one tablet with a Tensor chip and another with a Tensor G2 chip.
- The leak suggests the Pro model is actually the tablet Google is releasing this year.
Like many of Google’s unreleased products, the Pixel Tablet has had its fair share of leaks and rumors. Today, we just got another one that may explain the difference between the Pixel Tablet and the rumored Pixel Tablet Pro.
As you may know, the tablet Google plans on releasing this year had the codename “Tangor,” also known as “T6.” We’ve written extensively about this and other leaks regarding the Pixel Tablet. However, the existence of a “T6Pro” — as in Pixel Tablet Pro — was also discovered within lines of code by a well-known leaker who goes by the name Kuba Wojciechowski.
Another thing is the existence of another, higher-end tablet. It is referred to as “T6Pro” or “tangorpro”, while the known tablet is “T6” or “tangor”. It seems to be in its early development stages, and the code doesn’t currently indicate any changes over the regular model. pic.twitter.com/2Fz7ob9LF7
As such, it was believed that Google could be working on two tablets instead of just one. But months went by with little to no information about this suspected Pro model. Now it appears Wojciechowski has new information regarding this rumored product.
According to the leaker, Google first started working on a tablet using the original Tensor chip. This project was then reportedly canceled as Google began working on a tablet that used Tensor G2 instead.
Supposedly, the first device may have been the Pixel Tablet, and the second device — which is the one coming to market in 2023 — may actually be the Pro model. The leaker also pointed out that the only difference between the two devices appears to be the chip powering them.
In addition, Wojciechowski also shared some photos of the device.
