London has beaten New York to become the wealth capital of the world, according to an annual index.
New York, Tokyo and Paris have a greater number of affluent residents but London heads up the ranking of 100 cities, based on key criteria including global connectivity, investment from abroad, lifestyle and sustainability.
According to the latest edition of The Wealth Report by the property consultancy Knight Frank, London received the largest amount of international investment in property ($3 billion) last year. It also had the greatest diversity of investors, with people from 45 countries owning properties, most from the US, Canada, France, China and Spain.
London is also considered a leader for green-rated buildings and lifestyle factors such as leading universities, the report said.
