A loud blast has been heard in the southern suburbs of Beirut, a stronghold of Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, according to a Reuters witness.
According to a security source, the blast was a strike that targeted a senior Hezbollah commander.
Beirut has been on alert since a strike on a football pitch in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights that killed a dozen children on Saturday.
Israel has blamed Hezbollah but the group denied being responsible for the attack.
