A Lucile Erwin Middle School teacher will travel to Spain, Portugal and Morocco this summer to bring cultural and historical relevance to his seventh-grade classes.
The Thompson Education Foundation awarded its yearly $3,500 Windows on the World travel grant to Nick Divine, who teaches individuals and societies classes at the Loveland school.
“The grant is intended to allow the teacher to experience a learning opportunity in another country or culture and to bring their new knowledge back to students and other educators in the district,” according to a press release from the foundation.
During his visit to Spain, Portugal and Morocco, Divine will study the “rich history and global influence” of each country, including Spain and Portugal’s rise to prominence during the Age of Exploration, the release states. He will delve into the religious and cultural differences among food, architecture and society of all three countries that are located in such close proximity to each other.
The Hiatt Family Fund of the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado sponsors the Windows on the World program.
