Luton Town have signed Belgian goalkeeper, Thomas Kaminski from Blackburn Rovers for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Kaminski has kept 33 clean sheets in 118 appearances for Blackburn since he joined from KAA Gent in July 2020, during which he has received several call-ups to Belgium’s senior team despite failing to make a single appearance.
“I want to say a massive thank you to the club for giving me the opportunity to fulfil a childhood dream of mine to play in English football and it was an absolute pleasure to do it with such a big club with a big history as Blackburn Rovers,” commented Kaminski upon confirmation of his move.
The Belgian proceeded to pay tribute to his fans and club staff at Blackburn at Blackburn for their support, as he said: “I also want to say a massive thank you to the fans for all the love and support they have shown me over the last three years and to all the backroom staff at Brockhall and Ewood who have helped me feel so at home at the club since the day I arrived.
“I must also give a special mention to Ben Benson for everything he has done for me both personally and professionally. I will be forever grateful.
“I have mixed emotions about leaving, because I genuinely love the club and the people in it, but the chance to play and test myself in the Premier League is just too good an opportunity to turn down.
“I have really enjoyed my time in Blackburn, it has been a special time in my career, and I wish the club the best of luck for the future.”
The 30 year-old however admitted in an interview with www.lutontown.co.uk that he is “delighted” to step up to England’s top flight, which he described as “a dream for every footballer and it’s unbelievable to be here.”
Kaminski also acknowled how close Luton are as a team, as he continued: “Knowing Luton’s story and playing against them, it’s a well organised team. You can see the togetherness on the pitch,
“I’ve spoke many times to Amari’i Bell who was my teammate at Blackburn and he called it home, so it gave me a great feeling about the club.”
Manager, Rob Edwards added that Kaminski will bolster their goalkeeping line-up as first-choice goalkeeper, amidst competition from James Shea and Matt Macey.
Edwards added that Kaminski’s qualities will help boost their chances of avoiding relegation, as he said: “He’s a great person and he’s a really good proactive goalkeeper, which at this level you’re going to need. He’s sharp, he makes good saves and is alert in one-on-ones situations.
“Thomas not only brings us a really proactive level of goalkeeping but also he’s an international footballer with Belgium so he brings that level of experience too.”
Kaminski has reportedly signed for £2.5m plus add-ons and could make his debut for Luton away to Brighton on Saturday 12 August in a 3pm BST kick-off.
