The world’s 50 most polluted cities are in India. If we elaborate on this figure, six out of 10 most polluted cities, 14 out of 20 and 65 out of 100 cities are from our country. India ranks eighth in the list of most polluted countries. In this study released by IQAir, a Swiss organization, there is also a disparity in the effect of pollution prevention measures. On the one hand, there has been a significant decline in the pollution level in 31 Indian cities, but in 38 cities, pollution has increased as compared to the average of the previous years.
More pollution in more populated and industrial cities can be understood, but the shocking thing is that five of the world’s 20 most polluted cities are in Bihar – Darbhanga, Asopur, Patna, Chhapra and Muzaffarpur. Despite repeated discussions and claims of measures, the country’s capital Delhi also remains highly polluted. This latest report is in line with the findings of other studies. The basis of this report is the amount of particulate matter in the air.
In this regard, it is necessary to mention that now ozone pollution has also started increasing due to the mixture of two pollutants. In light of other studies, there is pollution in the rivers and reservoirs in the places or areas where the air is becoming poisonous. One of the major problems in our cities is the absence of proper waste management. On the one hand, the increasing population of the cities is increasing the pressure on the available resources, while the construction works are also increasing rapidly.
Even though the rules of making vehicles according to the standards and driving them only after pollution tests have an effect, due to the increasing number of vehicles, such measures are no longer effective. The capacity of the working population is also low. It has been told in the report that India’s economic loss due to air pollution is 150 billion dollars.
The biggest problem of pollution in the world is in South Asia, where India is the largest country in terms of population and area. If we are to keep our population healthy and prevent thousands of untimely deaths, pollution prevention has to be turned into a movement. Cleanliness programs and pollution monitoring governmen systems, but every citizen has to contribute to controlling pollution.
